In 2019, spam calls and call spoofing reached epidemic-level proportions. Approximately 58.5 billion robocalls plagued U.S. citizens, with only about 14% coming from legitimate businesses and 44% from scams. Between then and now, the FCC has taken steps to reduce the number of spoofed calls targeting consumers, such as mandating service providers to adopt STIR/SHAKEN standards. However, there is still room for spam mislabeling due to reasons outside of most enterprises’ control, and spam calls aren’t unique to the United States.
